Nutrition – a very difficult topic. You can fill books with it, write down a dissertation or search the internet for some useless information.
Most sides with the topic nutrition are designed to tell you how to loose weight to look like a model. I think that are about 80% till 90% of all pages. But I didn’t want to loose weight or take calorie-poor food with me.
There are only a few useful websites where you can find out something about nutrition and hiking. The main problem is that there are no generally accepted rules about the calorie consumption. This varies very strongly and depends on your own body and fitness.A quite useful side (as I think) is here: Ernährungsphysiologie (German language)
Because I did't want to take deluge of water with me, I decided to take a water filter with me to get fresh an clean water out of the lakes and also avoid to get ill. There are a lot of hikers who drink the water direktly out of the lakes.
On my tour I had to carry all of the food that I needed because there were no shops at the route. I had to think about energy/weight. In addition the cooking-time to save gas.

As an energy supplier for occasionally I made some cereal bars thereby on my own. In my eyes, there are two big advantages for self-made cereal bars: 1. it is cheap 2. it contains more energy
Here’s a very rough recipe for it:
Take everything exepting the cereals into a pan and heat up.
Take in some cereals an stir. If it gets pulpy it’s enough. If it’s too wet, take more cereals in it.
Remember: The honey and the sugar holds everything together if its getting cold!
If everything is well mixed, take it on a baking tin. You can try to form it so several real looking bars. It’s a little bit difficult, but the beauty is not important.
Now take it about 5-10 minutes into an oven at approx 150 degrees C.
After that they must cool down.
